Industry stakeholder meeting about the organisation of training seminars on the printing industry
Academic and professional stakeholders in the industries of graphic arts, printing and packaging, looking for a solution to the lack of specialised staff, a huge issue facing the sector, had a first, exploratory meeting to exchange ideas and write down needs. The online meeting took place on Wednesday 15 March 2023.
The meeting was attended by all industry stakeholders, specifically Mr George Gamprellis (President of HELGRAMED [Hellenic Union of Graphic Arts and Media Technology Engineers]), Mr Anastasios Politis (Vice President of HELGRAMED), Mr Marios Tsigonias (Director of GRAPHMEDLAB [Hellenic Graphic-Media Research Lab]), Mr Dimitris Mantis (President of AGMPM [Association of the Greek Manufacturers of Packaging & Materials]), Mr Aggelos Mpalamatsias (ELSET), Mr Christos Koutrouditsos (SEMEE) and Mr Kimon Papathanasopoulos (FESPA).
All participants agreed that it is crucial to educate and train new staff in the relevant industries and sectors. They discussed extensively the needs for new staff and the fields that should be prioritised for training. Furthermore, they agreed to write down, as soon as possible, the demands of all relevant industries by specialism, to look for best practices and to find the most efficient methods of organising seminars that will produce the next generation of workers in these industries.
After formulating the relevant proposals, Mr Politis promised to soon write a draft framework for the structure and organisation of training programs, possible training fields, financial matters and schedules. The framework will be given to participants to discuss and look for the most convenient ways and bodies to support and implement training. In the next meeting, scheduled to take place before Easter, the framework will take its final form and details will be announced.
Participants also agreed to keep up their efforts to establish a new Faculty of Graphic Arts and Packaging at the University of West Attica.
