After a long joint effort and with an impressive participation of the public, SYSKEVASIA 2024 saw the introduction of a new body for Research, Development and Education in Packaging, Printing and Graphic Communication.
On Saturday 2 November 2024, ELSET, HELGRAMED, FESPA and GRAPHMEDLAB began their common journey under PackPrint Science.
The Presidents of ELSET (Denise Haitoglou), HELGRAMED (G. Gamprellis), FESPA HELLAS (K. Papathanasopoulos) and the Director of UNIWA’s GRAPHMEDLAB (M. Tsigonias), welcomed the initiative, declared their full support and called on bodies, businesses and all people in these industries to back this effort.
The presentation was made by one of the main contributors to this effort, Dr Anastasios Politis, President of the International Circle of Educational Institutes of Graphic-Media Technology and Management, who mentioned the difficulty in finding specialized personnel and the lack of education, training and formation programmes in printing and packaging.
Dr A. Politis also talked about the very high and constant demand for personnel by package production and printing businesses, which look for but can’t find experienced collaborators. As an example, he said that during the Drupa 24, an exhibition, Greek businesses had around 120 job openings, while HELGRAMED’s data show that during SYSKEVASIA 24, another exhibition, there were around 40 job openings.
Later, Dr Politis said that we are obliged to take the future in our own hands, described what has been done since 2023 in order to create this new body (PackPrint Science centre) and listed its goals, which are as follows:
- To create a modern community for the industries of packaging, printing and graphic communication.
- To carry out research and development.
- To educate all people in these and related industries.
- To participate in national and international research projects and development programmes.
- To participate in informational activities and events (conferences, meetings, exhibitions etc.) in order to promote the industries and businesses.
- Special reference was made to the main fields that are the object of research, education and training: Administration and Management, Publishing Content Management and Editing, Graphic Arts and Printing Colour, Preprinting–Premedia, Printing Sciences and Technologies, Bookbinding–Completions, Graphic Art Materials Science, Package Design and Production, and all their sub-fields.
A desire shared by all those who welcomed the new body, by the speaker and by all those who intervened after the talk was to invite bodies and companies to align with the new endeavour and back the effort.
Following the personal interest of the Regional Governor of Central Greece, Mr. Fani Spanou and the President of the Regional Council Mrs Loukia Theodorou - Magoula, this initiative is supported by the Region.
